Objective: Establish a National Action Plan as well as a National Operational Plan for the execution of the lines of action of the Regional Strategy on an Integrated Approach to Chronic Diseases.
Expected Results: Identification of Priorities for the Line of Comprehensive Management of Chronic Diseases, in accordance with the Model of Care for the Chronic Diseases:
- Formation of group of experts will guide the preparation of the operational plan.
- Identification of priorities for the line of action: Integrated Management of Chronic Disease, in accordance with the Chronic Care Model.
- Organization of Health Care System for Chronic Diseases.
- Self-Management Support.
- Community participation.
- Delivery system design.
- Decision support.
- Clinical information system.
- Identification of priorities for the line of action: Epidemiological Surveillance for Chronic Diseases.
- Infrastructure.
- Indicators to monitor.
- Information sources.
- Surveillance strategies.
- Identification of priorities for the line of action: Health Promotion.
- Identification of priorities for the line of action: Policy.
Participating Institutions: Representatives from Nicaragua's Ministry of Health (MINSA), the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN), and the Nicaraguan Association of Endocrinology also participated in the meeting, along with representatives of the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP). The activity was coordinated by PAHO, with support in Nicaragua provided by Dr. Alberto Barceló, Regional Advisor for Noncommunicable Diseases.
