STEPwise Approach to Stroke Surveillance (STEPS Stroke)

Stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world and one of the top ten causes of death and disability in the Americas.

The World Health Organization has developed an international stroke surveillance system: the STEPwise Method to Stroke Surveillance (or STEPS Stroke), which forms a framework for standardized surveillance and data collection and analysis. PAHO, as the Regional Office for the Americas, wants to contribute to the adaptation of STEPS Stroke in the Region as an useful tool to improve data collection, prevention, and treatment for stroke, which is why PAHO had the manual translated into Spanish, and Portuguese to complement the original English version produced by WHO.
