In September of 2003, the Executive Committee of PAHO,
one of the governing bodies of the Organization constituted by nine
Ministers of Health from the Region of the Americas, requested PAHO
to assist countries in promoting access to medicines. In June 2004,
the Executive Committee was presented a working document on the subject
for discussion, and based on this the Committee elaborated a draft
resolution for the consideration of the Directing Council. In September
2004, the Directing Council of PAHO, composed of all the Ministers
of Health from the Region review and adopted the working document
and Resolution CD.45 R7 on Access to Medicines.

PAHO Working Group on Access to Medicines
In June 2004, PAHO convened a Working Group Meeting
on Access to Medicines, with the participation of experts from throughout
the region, and in order to develop the work program based on the
strategic lines of action.
