Program Description:

The Program covers two essential areas: the laboratories of public health and its respective networks in the countries of the Region, for which the mission and essential functions are being strengthened institutionally; and the clinical laboratories for the licensing and accreditation processes.

In order to guarantee the quality of the information generated through the results issued by the laboratories, it intends to set up and to maintain a system of quality management that includes the standardization of the processes and procedures, the systematization and documentation of quality control and of external the performance evaluation, the development of standards for the safety of the personnel and the biosafety of the community and of the environment, the adequate taking and the safe transportation of samples, the correct waste disposal and the development of programs for preventive and corrective maintenance.

The investment in the labor personnel both in managerial and technical aspects, it is fundamental to carry out the continuous improvement of the performance of the laboratories of the Region. With the staff education and training there is associated the development of an efficient information system that permits the timely decision-making and the design of interventions in public health.
