“ÉTICA Y ODONTOLOGÍA. UNA INTRODUCCIÓN”

The Interdisciplinary Center for Studies on Bioethics (CIEB) of the University of Chile, together with the Program on Bioethics of the Pan - American Health Organization (PAHO), just published "Ética y Odontología: Una Introducción", ISBN 956-19-0549-3 whose editors are Carmen Cardozo, Eduardo Rodríguez, Fernando Lolas and Álvaro Quezada.

This volume of 185 pages gathers CIEB's members, scholars of International Program on Ethics of Biomedical and Psicosocial Research and other researchers and academics contributions. The Program is sponsored by the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health (United States).

The book tackles ethical topics of odontoestomatology, with chapters about profession's risks, biosafety, and individual exercise vs. collective health, oral health from the anthropological view, inequity and injustice in the oral health attention in Latin America, ethical codes function, the dentist and the informed consent, training programs and many other topics that emerge in the daily practice of dentistry. The appendixes include a glossary, examples of ethical codes and biosafety recommendations.

The volume is directed to dentists, researchers, ethics committee members, public policies promoters and universitary students.
