Announcement: II Meeting of PAHOs Advisory Committee on Health Statistics
(CRAES)
The second Meeting of PAHOs CRAES will take place in Washington,
DC on September 10-12, 2003. The Committee was reactivated in 2000 and meets
periodically to analyze the status of health statistics in the Region of the
Americas while promoting improvements in the coverage and the quality of vital
and other statistics of interest to the health sector.
Some topics of the 2003 Meeting are: the Millennium Development
Goals at the national, regional, and international levels in the context of
data quality issues, availability problems, and the implications of these indicators
for strengthening national capacity; to review concepts and guidelines for mortality
data analysis with specific focus on multiple causes of death and management
of small numbers; to review a methodology for use in estimating mortality rates;
to review instruments to assess various aspects of national civil registration
and vital statistics systems in Member Countries; to make recommendations for
guidelines for hospital morbidity coding using ICD-10; and to review a core
curriculum for in-service training in the area of Management of health
records and Basic statistical methods.
