"I am one of the many people who live with hemophilia. Blood from volunteer donors is our main resource for living a normal life. My experience makes me understand the importance of blood donation and, even more, of blood safety. That's why I volunteer in blood drives, persuading people with my own story to be part of such a special group."

"Cordell is an energetic high school student who enjoys basketball, football and fishing. Cordell also has sickle cell disease, an inherited condition in which red blood cells, normally soft and round, become inflexible and sickle-shaped. He receives regular blood transfusions to help prevent and treat complications such as infections and episodes of pain. These transfusions seem like a breath of new life for my son."

“ When Seamus was 3 years old he was diagnosed with Stage IV, Burkitt's lymphoma and acute lymphocytic leukemia, an extremely aggressive form of cancer that requires an exceptionally aggressive chemotherapy regimen. Within a week of the diagnosis, Seamus received his first transfusion of platelets. His chemotherapy was intense, so intense that about a week after every treatment, Seamus almost always needed a transfusion of platelets and red blood cells. Thank you for giving your blood and your time. Now I will have a lifetime to spend with my son.”

"Marilyn Hughes knows about second chances. In 1994 she was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart that leads to congestive heart failure. Although medication provided a temporary solution, Marilyn was told she would eventually need a heart transplant to survive. Fortunately, a heart did come, and because of the dedication of a few blood donors who Marilyn will never know, the blood was made available, as well. On March 16, 1999 she received a heart transplant."

“ I am a police officer with the Eugene, Oregon, police department. While my partners and I were looking for a shooting suspect, I was accidentally shot and received life-threatening injuries. As soon as I arrived in the emergency room, I received five units of blood to stabilize me for surgery. Without life-saving blood, I don't know if I would have survived.”
