Children First: A Success Story of Collaboration between Pediatric Hospitals in Mexico and Canada
International Technical Cooperation Helps Improve the Health of Mexican Children
In 1997, the Oaxaca Children’s Hospital in Mexico and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Canada initiated a twinning partnership at a time when the Oaxacan facility was just beginning to establish itself as a pediatric care center. Ten years of intense cooperation, based on a bilateral flow of clinical and administrative knowledge and incorporating human resources training and institutional capacity-building approaches, have followed. In the last two years, with support from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Health Canada, the spirit of cooperation between the two hospitals has been further galvanized as the scope of activities underway has deepened and secured important new ground. PAHO Headquarters in Washington D. C. will be the venue for The Lancet Global Mental Health series America's Launch with the goals to complement the series with a focus on the Americas, and to identify areas of synergy and potential hemispheric and global collaboration regarding underserved populations in all low, middle and high income countries. Read more

Top officials and technical experts from UNICEF visited the Pan American Health Organization today to discuss areas of joint collaboration including water and sanitation, nutrition, social support for mothers and children, work in health emergencies and risk communications focusing on pregnant women, children and adolescents. Read more

 Vaccination week in the Americas advances on goals

Regional objective: Vaccinate 62 million people
With a spirit of integration and Pan-Americanism, health authorities carried out launches and immunization activities in all countries and territories of the Americas this week, working to vaccinate 62 million children, young people and adults throughout the Region, including indigenous populations in border areas. Read more

About the Area of Public Information

The Area of Public Information assumes the main responsibility for the public relations function in PAHO. It serves as the link between PAHO and the general public, as well as specialized audiences. It publishes and produces materials about PAHO including Perspectives in Health magazine and PAHO Today newsletter; creates and produces multimedia material on PAHO, such as Public Service Announcements, for use by the media; and provides media training and assistance with communication strategies to PAHO staff. The Area also coordinates PAHO's Speakers Bureau.
