It was recommended that the Bureau act as the regional branch of the International Bureau of Public Health for the collection and dissemination of statistics and reports on communicable diseases and health conditions in the hemisphere. To that end, the post of "traveling representative" was established to collect data on various subjects that would be considered at the next conference. Establishment of this post created an important link and direct contact between the Bureau in Washington and the public health authorities in the countries of the Americas.
