The Ministry of Health is the sole provider of health services in the public sector. The private sector is limited, but it is experiencing steady growth. The government of Anguilla has formed a Health Authority Project Board to plan the process for the establishment of the Health Authority intended to be part of a decentralized model to deliver health care to the population. This role has been conceived to achieve a more productive use of resources and timely response to the general needs of health services. Until the Health Authority is completely established, the Ministry of Health will continue to be responsible for planning, policy formulation, establishment of standards, and monitoring and evaluation.
The profile was prepared by a group of seven professionals and national policy decision makers from the Ministry of Health of Anguilla and the PAHO/WHO Caribbean Program Coordination in Barbados. Technical coordination of the national group was the responsibility of the Ministry of Health of Anguilla and the PAHO/WHO Caribbean Program Coordination in Barbados. Final review, edition, and translation are the responsibility of the Health Systems and Policies Unit, PAHO/WHO, Washington, DC.
