Health System Profile of Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saint Kitts y NevisThe Ministry of Health in St. Kitts and Nevis is responsible for the organization and management of health services and has the ultimate responsibility for health policy. The government provides most services and there has been continuous rationalization to improve efficiency. The Permanent Secretary is the Accounting Officer in the Ministry and is responsible to the Director of Audit for the proper use of funds allocated to the Ministry. Health services are provided by four public hospitals. These institutions provide primary and secondary care.

The cost of health services at hospitals and clinics is borne by the government. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry is responsible for the management of the sector. As a consequence of health reforms, management has been streamlined to include Institutional Care, Community Based Health Services and Policy and Information Management.
