The Ministry of Health is responsible for providing universal health services based on the population. Trinidad and Tobago currently is in the process of implementing a solid Program for Health Sector Reform (PRSS). Some of the structures and relations still exist and others have been modified. It is understood that the institutions outside the health sector have changed since 1994.
The Ministry of Health is in charge of the general management of the health sector. This Ministry performs its responsibilities for management through the functions of planning, regulation, policy formulation, surveillance, and evaluation. Regulation functions are carried out partially as a part of the responsibilities of the Ministry in order to enforce existing legislation, as well as the formulation of new legislation.
