International Workshop on
Gender and Health Accounts

Background:
The International Workshop on Gender and Health Accounts, organized by the PAHO representation in Chile, the Health and Human Development Division at PAHO/WHO and FONASA (Fondo Nacional de Salud - Chilean Ministry of Health) took place on October 18th-19th in Santiago, Chile.
The workshop was supported by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Development Programme in Chile (UNDP), and the Ford Foundation. Funding was provided by UNIFEM's Regional Office for Mexico, Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
Objectives of the Workshop:
a) Share existing experiences in the construction of national health accounts and address these experiences with the need to recognize and quantify domestic productive health work, which is performed mainly by women, without renumeration.
b) Define and discuss the principal methodological problems for creating a health sector account which considers household health production and the gender perspective.
c) Propose an agenda for methodological advances in constructing national gender and health accounts.
