Guyana

Guyana is a young country as it gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1966. Due to the vastness of its natural resources, English-speaking population, proximity to North America, moderate climate, and areas of natural magnificence, Guyana has tremendous potential for growth and investment in a range of sectors. Its development has been helped by economic development policies applied in Canada, United States and United Kingdom. This republic is located in the northern coast of South America, has access to the Atlantic Ocean and limits with Brazil, Venezuela and Suriname. Guyana has a population of about 765,000 people. The country's economy is mainly based on agricultural activities, representing almost 40% of Gross Domestic Product. Guyana is a major exporter of bauxite; it also has reserves of gold and diamonds and potential for hydro electrical production. The human development index of Guyana is 0.720, medium human development, 107th place in the world. The Adult literacy rate is 96.5%. Life expectancy in this country is 63.1 years. It has a Gross Domestic Product per capita of $4,230 (USD PPP). Guyana spends 4.3% of its GDP on health.
