Goal Description:

Policies and programs implemented increase protective factors and reduce psychosocial risks to health.


Purpose Description:    

Capacity of local institutions and communities on the US/Mexico Border strengthened to implement healthy public policies and programs, as well as to monitor and reduce social and behavioral risk factors and promote mental health.




5.1 Strengthen health research on border priorities including psychosocial and behavior risks, violence and injuries.


Number of universities participating in the USMBHC Advisory Committee supported with their public health research agendas including observatories.


Number of sister cities and other cross border collaboration initiatives provided support to apply guidelines for violence and injury prevention, and improve health care.

5.2 Support border binational coordination efforts in the prevention of risk factors associated with tobacco, alcohol, substance abuse and unsafe sex.


Number of Sister Cities and other cross border collaboration initiatives implementing guidelines, policies and plans to achieve their objectives including HIV/AIDS and TB.


Number of Sister Cities and other cross border collaboration initiatives receiving support to apply guidelines to reduce tobacco, alcohol and substance abuse.


5.3 Support improved access, quality and use of medical products and technologies.

Number of Border State Blood Centers supported to develop and implement policies for voluntary non remunerated blood donation.
