- The Swiss Foundation Health On the Net (HON) certified the Pan
American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO)
U.S.-Mexico Border Office Web site as a source of reliable health and
medical information, understandable, relevant and of confidence.
The HONcode certification was granted after a review of the site in relation to eight principles that they try to guide to the users of Internet toward safe pages in a cyberspace where there is a great deal of health and medical information, as well as inequalities in its quality.
According to the HON codes, the site http://www.paho.org/fep clarifies the sources of information consulted, presents the information appropriately, independent and correct, there is identified in light of whom visit it, it is understandable and accessible, presents the information in complementary form without replacing the physician-patient relationship, respects the privacy and confidentiality of the users, and is transparent with regard to authors and heritage // among other things.
These principles (authorship, function, access, guarantee, complementarity, transparency and confidentiality) ensure that who visit the Web can find there safe and transparent information when making reasonable decisions on the information on health in which are going to rely or, on products or services that are going to use.
About Health On the Net (HON) Foundation
The Health On the Net (HON) Foundation was established in 1995 under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of Geneva. In 2002, it was recognized as nongovernmental organization and there was granted the special status of advisory agency of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. In May 2004, HON obtained the “eEurope Award for eHealth” on the part of the European Union and the European Commission.
