Also on Tuesday April 26th, 2011 the U.S. Health and Human Services of Hidalgo County and South Texas Promotoras Association in conjunction with the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission (USMBHC), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) U.S.-Mexico Border Office held a workshop entitled "Binational Immunization Service" at the San Juan Community Center, in San Juan, Texas.

Dr. Gustavo Iturralde, Technical Officer Health Promotion & Family Health for the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) United States - Mexico Border Office, presented details about the U.S. National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) and the Vaccination Week of the Americas (VWA) and about the binational immunization comparison tools between the United States (Texas) and Mexico, Ana Nunez, from the Health Services Texas State Department Immunization Program provided information about the vaccination programs and coverage in the state of Texas, and Dr. Agustín González, Department Head of Universal Vaccination in Tamaulipas spoke about the schema of Mexico and new vaccines incorporated therein.


The main purpose of the meeting was to update the knowledge about vaccination in Texas and Mexico; it was aimed at the promotoras of the South Texas Promotoras Association, with the participation of 67 promotoras from both Texas and Tamaulipas. The program concluded with reflections of the need to continue to update the health workers in the field of immunizations and the possibility of having subsequent meetings during the 2011 Binational Health Week to be held in October.
