Strengthening violence prevention strategies and care for victims Print E-mail

El Paso, TX, June 4, 2012 (PAHO/WHO) –In order to prepare local and state public servants currently working in law enforcement and in charge of crime prevention and citizen participation, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) United States-Mexico Border Office in conjunction with the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez (UACJ) are offering an undergraduate course in Public Safety and Violence Prevention. The course began June 1st and will end on October 6th, 2012.

The objective of the course is to provide updated information to those responsible for designing, planning, and executing public policy and violence prevention at the highest level and to strengthen the capacities and competencies of the social and community factors related to strategies to prevent violence and care for victims.

The course is conceived as an academic university space for analysis and reflection at a high-level, integrating a range of updated content, knowledge and methodologies for Human Rights, Public Security, Citizenship and Human and Violence Prevention from Public Health and other approaches.  The program will last 120 hours spread over 10 weekends (Fridays and Saturdays, alternating weekends) of 10 hours each.
