Building a Communication Strategy for the Prevention of Violence and Injury

El Paso, TX, August 10, 2012(PAHO/WHO) –  In the framework of the  Prevention of Violence and Injury Project coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Council for the Prevention of Accidents (CONAPRA) of the Ministry of Health of México (SSA), a workshop Building a Multi-institutional Communication Strategy for Violence and Injury Prevention will be held on:

Participants in this workshop represent the government and non-government organizations that make up the Advisory Committee for the Communication Strategy for the Project on the Prevention of Violence and Injury.

The goals of this event are, among others, to share communication materials and/or campaigns for, as well as experiences with, the prevention of violence that have been used by the attending organizations, such as posters, pamphlets, ads, and so on; and that the participants collaborate in defining the messages and slogans of prevention issues and attention to this communication strategy, including child abuse, with emphasis on discipline without hitting, physical punishment, and psychological abuse; sexual violence, domestic violence, teen violence, with emphasis on non-violent relationships; and youth violence with an emphasis on bullying, gangs, traffic safety and other crime.

The messages and slogans created during this session will be the themes that will be used in the art workshops held in community centers in Ciudad Juarez, including workshops in screen printing, photography, clay, and graffiti. The works of art produced during these workshops will become part of the Communication Strategy for the Project on the Prevention of Violence and Injury. In addition, the messages and slogans will also be used for radio and television spots and posters that will be used to promote the prevention of violence and injury in Ciudad Juarez.
