|Celebrating Drug Awareness Week on the U.S.-Mexico border|
El Paso, TX., April 9, 2012 (PAHO / WHO) - The Consulate General of Mexico in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), the University of Texas at El Paso ( UTEP) and the El Paso Department of Public Health announce the Drug Awareness Week, which will take place from April 9-13, 2012 in El Paso, Texas.
There will be information on programs that local authorities perform in health, in order to generate greater social awareness about the dangers of addiction. Schedule of workshops that will be held in the community on Tuesday April 10th will be provided.
The conference will be chaired by the Consul General of Mexico, Roberto Rodriguez Hernandez, Mayor of the City of El Paso, John Cook, Attorney of the County of El Paso, Jo Anne Bernal, Sheriff of El Paso County Richard Wiles, Chief of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), Dr. Maria Teresa Cerqueira and Angela Mora Department of Public Health of the City of El Paso, Texas.
The conference will be on Monday April 9, 2012 at 10:00 am at Consulate General of Mexico located at 910 E. San Antonio Ave El Paso, Texas, 79901.
Additionally, there will be a panel "Moving to a better quality of life" at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The panel will consist of the following components:
• Dr. Maria Teresa Cerqueira, PAHO / WHO: "Protecting children and youth from addictions: Life skills and parenting skills education".
• Dr. Edward Castañeda, Director of Psychology at the University of Texas at El Paso, "UTEP Vulnerability Issues in Drug Abuse (LIFE) Project An Ecological Approach to Train Researchers Across Disciplines."
• Scott Comar, History of a testimony: "The Dynamics of Active Addiction and Early Recovery"
This panel is scheduled for Monday April 9 at 4:00 pm at the Health Sciences and Nursing Building, Room 211, UTEP, located at 1851 Wiggins Rd El Paso, Texas 79968.
