Labour Ward Protocol Workshop 2012

 The Ministry of Health/Maternal and Child Health (MOH/MCH) Program in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), conducted a Workshop on the Review of the Labour Ward Protocol, 19 & 20 January 2012 at the Ocean View International Hotel, Liliendaal.

 

 Thirty (30) participants from the Ministry of Health attended the workshop.  The participants were selected from regional hospitals across Guyana and included midwives, nurses, matrons, sisters-in–charge, and medical doctors.
 
Some of the topics that can be seen listed below were part of the focus during the review process among other:
•  Admissions to the labour ward
• Monitoring of patients
• Fetal hear monitoring
• The dead baby: Intrauterine death, still birth
• Induction of Labour
• Retained placenta
• Premature rupture membranes


Outcome of the workshop:

Participants contributed their knowledge of the different components of the protocol as well as the management of the labour ward. The updated document has been renamed “Labour Ward Protocol 2012 Edition. This tool will be implemented to improve the quality of Maternal and Child Health services at the hospital level.
