Use and Services of the PAHO/WHO Knowledge Centre
The PAHO KNOWLEDGE Centre was relocated on March 27, 2009. It was launched on October 21 and opened to users on October 26, 2009.
The PAHO Knowledge Centre is a health library. The purpose of the PAHO Knowledge Centre is to support the work of the PAHO/WHO Representation in-country programs and to disseminate information to the public and private health sectors. The Centre disseminates literature from WHO, PAHO and other agencies.
The centre can be used by the University community and the general public. The information is accessible by anyone who is in need of health information on issues relating to Guyana and globally. The services offered are, general book collection, audiovisual collection and access to the internet. The databases and online libraries which are introduced to users are, HINARI, the general Virtual Health Library, Cochrane library and SciLo to mention a few where full text information can be retrieved. Users will be oriented on the various online libraries as they visit the centre.
The collection has information on both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Users will have the opportunity to retrieve health information in all aspects such as HIV AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, cancer, aging and others. There are also materials located in the centre on some aspects of health in relation to technology, example waste management, water distribution modeling, hydraulics. These materials can be used by users in the Technology field.
The Indigenous and the Journal collections are reference collections which are available to users. In addition to the services offered users are allowed to take advantage of the 48hrs loan service. Only materials from the general book collection will be loaned.
Printing and Photocopying
The services of printing and photocopying are offered to users.
