PAHO/WHO Guyana Country Office Donation to Nursing Schools

The Ministry of Health, Guyana Nursing Schools receive donations from the PAHO/WHO Guyana Country Office

The PAHO/WHO Guyana country office donated five (5) birthing simulators and thirty-two (32) copies of the text book, Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, 13th edition 2011, to Nursing Schools in Guyana on 5 March 2012.

Dr. Beverley Barnett, PAHO/WHO Representative, Guyana, indicated that resources to procure the items donated were obtained through a technical cooperation among countries (TCC) project between Guyana and Jamaica to facilitate the Clinical Instructor Capacity Building Project for the period January to November 2011.  Dr. Barnett added that PAHO/WHO was pleased to support the strengthening of health education programs in the Ministry of Health and she was happy that the Nursing Schools in Guyana had reached out for help in support of health and education systems strengthening.

Those present at the handing over ceremony were: Ms. Tarramattie Barker, Chief Nursing Officer and Mr. Noel Holder, Director of Health Sciences Education of the Ministry of Health, Ms. Norma Semple, Principal Tutor and Mr. Prince Frimpong Addai, Nursing Tutor of the Georgetown School of Nursing, Mr. Hilary Christopher, Principal Tutor, Charles Rosa School of Nursing, and Ms. Pearl Munroe, Senior Tutor, New Amsterdam School of Nursing.  Everyone present expressed their appreciation for the donation.  Ms. Barker remarked that the items are critical to the enhancement of the project and predicted that the additional learning tools will be invaluable to the students and tutors who will use them in the conduct of their daily learning activities.
