The objetive of the guide is to help elucidate the implications of policies for gender equity, recognizing, of course, that they will vary depending on a country’s specific circumstances.


The guide provides a basis for discussion and advocacy in a process aimed at building consensus around the identification of problems, the establishment of priorities for action, the formulation or reformulation of policy objectives, and the definition of indicators and strategies for monitoring application of the resulting policies.

The guide includes:  

  • Nature, objectives, and uses of the guide
  • Frame of reference
  • Guidelines for contect analysis
  • Observation fields for the analysis of gender equity in health policies
