The Neglected, Tropical and Vector Borne Diseases (CHA/VT), part of the Department of Communicable Diseases and Health Analysis (CHA), is the group inside PAHO assigned to the area of infectious disease; surveillance, prevention, and control. Countries of the Americas aim to halt transmission of schistosomiasis by 2020

 Representatives of countries affected by schistosomiasis, a chronic parasitic infection, met last week in Puerto Rico to define a roadmap for halting transmission and verifying the elimination of the disease. Schistosomiasis affects primarily school-age children in rural areas of certain countries in the Americas.
