Get involved: internship opportunities

The Workers’ Health program seeks talented interns with an avid interest in occupational and environmental health and safety, global health, and health policy. Internships are held in PAHO’s Washington, DC office and are typically four months in duration. Interns have gained invaluable experience in helping to improve working conditions in the Americas. Examples of projects that interns have completed include:

  • Preventing occupational transmission of infectious diseases among health care workers
  • Developing a regional network on occupational safety and health
  • Preventing and controlling occupational cancer
  • Organizing the inaugural and subsequent Hispanic Forum on Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety
  • Developing a Workers’ Health website to increase knowledge and awareness on occupational health and safety
  • Developing the Asbestos Atlas of the Americas
  • Preparing the commemoration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work celebrated yearly on April 28
