Public Health Impact in Latin America and the Caribbean:

Pneumococcal disease causes an estimated 12,000 to 28,000 deaths in the Latin American and Caribbean region annually. Every year, pneumococcal cases are also associated with 182,000 hospitalizations (16 per 1,000 children) and 1,412,000 outpatient visits (121 per 1,000 children).

Pneumococcal disease causes an estimated 1.3 million cases of acute otitis media, 327,000 cases of pneumonia, 1,229 cases of sepsis, and 4,000 cases of meningitis annually in children aged <5 years in Latin America and the Caribbean.
