Paramaribo, Suriname – On the occasion of the Vaccination Week, PAHO Director, Dr. Mirta Roses will travel to Albina for the launch of the Vaccination Week activities in Suriname. She will be accompanied by PAHO Suriname representative, Dr. Gerry Eijkemans. A full week of activities is planned, vaccination activities involving the family as a whole and special high risk occupational group. The Medical Mission and the Regional Health Services have also planned local vaccination and health education activities for risk groups, in their respective areas.
On 28 April, 2010, at the Ministry of Health, the PAHO Director, Dr. Mirta Roses will be welcomed by the Minister of Health a.i. Mr. Michel Felisi and his staff, followed by a Press Conference discussing the Vaccination Week in the Americas and other health issues.
During her visit she will also attend a Symposium on the occasion of World Day Safety and Health at Work, celebrating healthy workplaces in the Americas, where she will speak on health and safety of health workers.
On this day, PAHO/WHO promotes a comprehensive approach to health, safety, and wellness in the workplace. It involves action in four areas; physical work environment, psychosocial work environment, personal health resources (access to occupational health services, health promotion), and enterprise community involvement.
She will also visit the Academic Hospital Paramaribo, where she’ll meet with the Director and his staff, followed by a visit to the new Central Laboratory of Suriname at the Bureau of Public Health.
