Guide to Technology Management and Integration: General Purpose Radiology

This guide focuses on the technology of general purpose radiology, including imaging in screen-film and digital systems. The purpose is to furnish guidelines that will make it possible to consider all necessary elements when integrating this technology into diagnostic imaging services. The guide lists some of the basic and essential technical parameters that should be requested from manufacturers or providers to ensure compatibility among the different elements, as well as the best integration of the new acquisition into the particular environment of each health institution. This issue contains articles and reports on radiodiagnosis, radiation therapy, and radiation protection written by professionals in different specialties, including radiologists, radiobiologists, medical physicists, and specialists in radiation protection. The goal of this publication goal is to raise awareness among public health authorities and professionals about the needs and challenges posed by the use of these technologies. The main objective is to motivate professionals and staff in the ministries of health of the Americas to expand the traditional fields of public health to these areas and help accelerate the changes that are urgently needed to improve the health of our peoples. This workbook on quality assurance is the first of several technical workbooks on various topics in radiography for use in developing countries and was prepared through a joint ISRRT/WHO project.
