A PAHO/WHO Fellowship is a specially tailored training activity for an individual or a group with the purpose of fulfilling specific learning objectives. It may be of short or long duration, and takes place in a training institution or in the field inside or outside of the Fellow's country. It is awarded in response to nationally approved health or health-related priorities in the context of Health for All and is consistent with national human resources policies and plans.

The Fellowship program is largely decentralized. Each of the six regional WHO offices share responsibility for management and administration of the Fellowship program within its region and in direct consultation with the "sending" or "receiving" country.

How to Apply: For more information and application forms, Fellowship candidates should contact their national health administration (usually the Ministry of Health). In order to locate the correct office and responsible officer within the Ministry, Fellowship candidates should contact the WHO Country Representative in their nation's capital. If they are not able to locate either the appropriate office at the Ministry or the WHO office in their capital, they should contact the WHO Regional Office for more information. Inquiries should be addressed to the Regional Office that has administrative responsibility for the candidate's home country.

WHO Fellowship Offices are not permitted to dispense or accept applications from individuals. Candidates must be nominated by their government, their applications must have the written endorsement of their government, and the applications must be forwarded to the WHO Country Representative by their government's national health administration.
