Dr. Mirta Roses met Julia Olmo, Director of Cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean in the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECID) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. This meeting reviewed the proposal for a new framework for discussion of relations with PAHO for the next three years.
Among other meetings held in the Spanish capital, the Director of the Pan American Health Organization has also met with Mr. Javier Fernandez-Lasquetty, Councilman of the Community of Madrid, to discuss the health situation in the Region of the Americas and the medical training of Latin American doctors in Madrid.
The collaboration between Spain and PAHO began when the country gained the status of PAHO Observer in September 1980. Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC) of the Kingdom of Spain and PAHO, in May 2007, the Spanish Fund was established to finance projects and activities of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in the Americas.

In addition, PAHO has agreements with some Spanish regions like Andalusia, Madrid, Valencia, Asturias and Catalonia, as well as other Spanish institutions involved in the field of health.
