Epidemiological Alerts Given the significant increase of pertussis cases in several areas of the Region, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) encourages Member States to increase their level of surveillance, to continuously monitor the level of vaccination coverage in one year old infants and children under 5 years old, with particular emphasis on identifying susceptible group.

Anecdotal evidence about experimental therapies (08/25/2014)

Clinicians working in Liberia have informed WHO that 2 doctors and 1 nurse have now received the experimental Ebola therapy, ZMapp.  The nurse and one of the doctors show a marked improvement. The condition of the second doctor is serious but has improved somewhat.
