Photographs from Chile, Ecuador and Argentina, and videos from Brazil, Honduras, and the United States have won the ProPAN Photography and Video Competition, organized by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) to promote complementary feeding of infants in the Americas. The winning entries show children ages 6 to 24 months eating on their own or with the help of an adult.
Close to 400 photos and 15 videos from 21 countries were submitted to the contest, which highlights the importance of adding healthy and varied foods to a child’s diet starting at 6 months of age, when breastfeeding alone no longer meets all nutritional needs.
