Blood Services

The mission of the  Blood Services area in the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is to cooperate technically with national blood programs in the Region of the Americas to ensure that they have sufficient quantities of safe blood to provide timely transfusions to all patients who need them, thus contributing to lower mortality and optimal patient care in Latin America and the Caribbean. Also, to provide timely transfusions to all patients who need them.

This section contains technical documents and a number of links that will enable visitors to access the basic tools necessary for ensuring the timely availability of sufficient quantities of safe blood for transfusions.

Information resources of the blood services

The National Anemia Action Council (NAAC) created the Anemia & Blood Donation tutorial for deferred blood donors and the health professionals who educate them about low blood counts and anemia. Read on to learn about the possible causes of a low blood count, potential treatments and the importance of communicating a low blood count to your doctor.

This section supplements that material, offering specific examples of how these proposals can be implemented, encouraging cooperation and partnerships between blood services from throughout the world.

World Blood Donor Day 2013 in Jamaica

Every year Jamaica joins the rest of the world in celebrating World Blood Donor Day. June 14th, 2013 is an extra special date for the country as it will host the event for the Americas.
