The health of women and men in Central America and Dominican Republic-Profile 2009

This document has been elaborated by the Consejo de Ministras de la Mujer de Centroamérica (COMMCA) in coordination with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO). The objective of the document is to provide relevant information on women's and men's health in the region to contribute to enhance the health conditions of populations of the Central American isthmus and Dominican Republic.

The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is pleased to present this biennial brochure, Gender, Health, and Development in the Americas: Basic Indicators 2009. This brochure seeks to lend visibility to the inequalities between women and men in several areas related to health and its socioeconomic determinants.

This publication aims to contribute to shed light on the inequities between women and men and to show how these inequalities affect state of health, access to health services, and contribution to health care.
