Primer Taller Internacional de Prevención de Cólera de Ecoclubes para Centro America, México, República Dominicana y Haití

La Red Internacional Ecoclubes de la Región Centroamérica, México y El Caribe tuvo su primer “Taller Internacional de Prevención de Cólera” en La Vega, República Dominicana, del 17 al 20 de febrero. El evento se organizó a partir de las experiencias de cooperación frente al cólera entre los Ecoclubes en la frontera dominico-haitiana en base a las actividades que realizan los Ecoclubes de la frontera en temas relacionados con el manejo de residuos sólidos, agua, saneamiento e higiene.

CDC/PAHO Workshop for the Caribbean Sub-region on Decision-Making for Using Community Mitigation Measures:Planning for Influenza and Other Public Health Emergencies

This train-the-trainers workshop was conducted in Port-of-Spain from January 19-20, 2011 to enhance the countries' preparedness and response to future influenza pandemics, severe seasonal influenza epidemics, and other public health emergencies such as the possible spread of cholera across the Americas. The agenda focused on community mitigation measures, community health workers’ health and protection, and continuity of public health and business operations during an influenza pandemic. In addition, participants conducted a simulation exercise CDC/PAHO Workshop based on the experience from  the H1N1 influenza pandemic (2009) to update and put into practice the Community Mitigation Measures that are also applicable to seasonal influenza epidemics, cholera outbreaks, and other public health emergencies.

CDC/PAHO Workshop for the Central American Sub-region on Community Mitigation Measures for Pandemic Influenza

This workshop was conducted in Antigua, Guatemala in November, 2009. Participants from  five countries reviewed and discussed public health interventions to mitigate the effects of the 2009 H1N1 influenza at the community level, involving schools, workplaces, health care facilities, local government agencies, faith-based organizations, health communicators and others.
