The first World Health Assembly was held at the birth of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. As the decision-making body of WHO, the Assembly is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States, including those in the Americas. Every year in May, high-level authorities gather at the Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, to review relevant global health issues.

In Honduras at a malaria post, a young boy receives care from a community leader who is trained on malaria testing and treatment methods. Expanding coverage of the malaria program, trained community leaders and volunteers provide care in areas without access to health services.
