Cervical Cancer Experts gather to develop new guidelines

A small international expert group, convened by WHO is meeting this week at PAHO to develop a new guideline on cervical cancer prevention and control, based on the new evidence which has emerged over the past several years on HPV vaccines, new screening tests as well as new approaches to prevention including single visit screen and treat methods. The group will finalize a comprehensive guide book, intended for those health providers designing and delivering services aimed at reducing the burden of cervical cancer.

Policy Forum on  Active Cities: Transforming Communities for Smart Growth and Health

On September, 21, 2012, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and the World Bank, held policy forum entitled, a Active Cities: Transforming Communities for Smart Growth and Health. The event featured Dr. Richard Visser, Minister of Health of Aruba, Dr. Miguel Malo, Vice Minister of Health from Ecuador, Jorge Munoz Wells, Mayor of Miraflores in Lima, Peru, and other urban planning, development and health experts who shared best practices and discussed opportunities for multi-sectoral action to address physical inactivity, a leading risk factor for many noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

On August 28 – 29, the PANDRH Secretariat from Headquarters held the Ad-Hoc Working Group of the Steering Committee of the Pan American Network for Drug Regulatory Harmonization (PANDRH) as a follow-up to the agreements of the Steering Committee of PANDRH Meeting held in November, 2011. During this meeting, it was agreed to create an Ad-Hoc Committee that would prepare the draft strategic development plan, which thereafter would be summited for consideration by the Seventh Conference for approval implementation.
