Fourth Global Forum on Human Resources for Health Side Event (SE-18)
14 November 2017, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
On 27 September 2017, the countries of the Americas committed to strengthening human resources for Universal Health by adopting the Strategy on Human Resources for Universal Access to Health and Universal Health Coverage at the 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference in Washington, D.C. The Strategy, resulting from two years of consultative meetings at the country and sub-regional levels, clearly defines three priority lines of action that focus on governance and leadership, equitable access to quality services provided by a competent health workforce, and health and education partnerships that respond to the needs of the health system to achieve universal health.
During this parallel session (Part I and Part II), PAHO officials and health authorities from the countries and subregions will share their vision to implement the Strategy and will present successful programs such as Brazil’s “Mais Medicos” that has had a positive impact on the strengthening of the health system. These presentations and discussions that follow will serve as a basis for the next step in this process--the development of an action plan for the implementation of the Strategy, ensuring that national, subregional and regional plans are aligned.
