Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 15 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

In 2016, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru reported confirmed cases of yellow fever. In 2017, Brazil reported the occurrence of an outbreak in the state of Minas Gerais and epizootics in the neighboring state of Espírito Santo.

From epidemiological week (EW) 1 of 2016 to EW 30 of 2017, Brazil, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

In 2017, as of 2 February yellow fever cases have been confirmed in Brazil, whereas Colombia and Peru have only reported probable cases.

Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 7 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and the Plurinational State of Bolivia, have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 17 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

Between January 2016 and 13 March 2018, seven countries and territories of the Region of the Americas reported confirmed cases of yellow fever: the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, and Suriname. The number of human cases and epizootics collectively reported in this period in the Region of the Americas is the highest observed in decades.

In light of the circulation of yellow fever in several areas of the Region, and considering current outbreaks in countries outside of this Region, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) advises Member States to maintain the capacity to detect and confirm cases of yellow fever, provide updated information for health professionals and train them to enable them to properly detect and manage cases, especially in areas at risk for yellow fever circulation. In addition, Member States are encouraged to maintain high vaccination coverage in at risk populations.

Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 6 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and the Plurinational State of Bolivia, have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 19 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 16 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

Between January 2017 and December 2018, six countries and territories in the Region of the Americas reported confirmed cases of yellow fever: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, and Peru. The number of cases reported during this period in the Region of the Americas exceeded the number reported in several decades.

Between epidemiological week (EW) 1 of 2016 and EW 43 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 13 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and Suriname have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

In light of the circulation of yellow fever in several areas of the Region, and in the context of the ongoing El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) advises Member States to establish and maintain the capacity to detect and confirm cases of yellow fever and keep health professionals up to date to enable them to identify suspected cases and manage cases properly, especially in areas at risk for yellow fever. In addition, Member States are advised to maintain high vaccination coverage in at risk populations.

This update describes the status of the yellow fever outbreaks that have taken place this year in Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela, as well as the response to them and recommendations to be followed to control them.

In 2015, three countries in the Americas have confirmed yellow fever virus circulation: Bolivia (epizootic), Brazil, and Peru (human cases). In 2016, as of epidemiological week (EW) 24, three countries have reported jungle yellow fever: Brazil, Colombia, and Peru.

In 2019, three countries in the Region of the Americas (Bolivia, Brazil, and Peru) have reported confirmed yellow fever cases occurring between December 2018 and February 2019.

Between January 2017 and November 2018, six countries and territories of the Region of the Americas reported confirmed cases of yellow fever: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, and Peru. The number of human cases and epizootics reported in the Region of the Americas during this period is the highest in decades.

In 2017, as of 8 February, yellow fever cases have been confirmed in Brazil, whereas Colombia and Peru have only reported probable cases, one and three respectively.

Since epidemiological week (EW) 1 to EW 8 of 2017, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and the Plurinational State of Bolivia, have reported suspected and confirmed yellow fever cases.

Situation summary in the Americas

In 2015, three countries in the Americas confirmed circulation of yellow fever virus: Bolivia reported epizootic and Brazil and Peru reported human cases. In 2016, as of epidemiological week (EW) 44, three countries had reported jungle yellow fever: Brazil, Colombia, and Peru.

Up to 23 June 2004, the Ministries of Health of Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia reported to the Pan AmericOrganization (PAHO) the occurrence of 86 confirmed cases of Jungle Yellow Fever (JYF), with 41 death

Up to Epidemiological Week (EW) 29, a total of 109 cases of Jungle Yellow Fever (JYF), with 50 deaths, have been reported to PAHO by Bolivia (4), Brazil (62), Colombia (33), Peru (7) and Venezuela (3).

In 2007 and the beginning of 2008, Brazil reported an intense and extensive epizootic of Jungle Yellow Fever in an area encompassing 6 states (Goiás, the Federal District, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Tocantins, and São Paulo).

Up to August 26, a total of 181 confirmed Jungle Yellow Fever cases have been reported to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with 75 deaths.

On 5 October 2004, the Ministry of Health and Social Development (MSDS) of Venezuela reported to PAHO three new cases of Jungle Yellow Fever, with two deaths.

During 2003, Colombia reported to PAHO 106 1 cases of Jungle Yellow Fever (JYF), all of which occurred in the Departments of Caquetá (1 case), Casanare (2 cases), Cesar (6), Guaviare (1), Meta (2), Guajira (2) y Norte de Santander (92).

The Ministry of Health (Ministério da Saúde / MS) of Brazil has confirmed 10 cases of human jungle yellow fever (JYF) among the 30 suspected cases associated with the current epizootic among monkeys in the Central-Western part of the the country.

 Up to 6 August 2003, a total of 160 confirmed cases of jungle yellow fever have been reported to the Pan American Health Organization, with 70 deaths.

This PAHO/WHO statement provides results of the investigation of serious adverse events that occurred in October 2007 in Peru following administration of the yellow fever vaccine (substrain 17DD) manufactured by Bio-Manguinhos, Brazil.

 Up to epidemiological week (EW) 28 of 2003, Colombia reported to PAHO 27 cases of jungle yellow fever (JYF), with a case fatality rate of 63%.

Since 10 September 2003 to date, 25 new laboratory-confirmed cases have been reported to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

From 9 October to 1 November 2003, 12 new laboratory-confirmed cases were reported to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The total number of cumulative cases for this year is 221, with 99 deaths.

For 2003 to 6 December 2003 (Epidemiological Week/EW 49), 226 cases of jungle yellow fever (JYF) were reported to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with 99 deaths.

In Epidemiological Week (EW) 30, a death was reported from a probable case of yellow fever, in a 22-year-old man from the town of Pavo, Province of Bella Vista, Department of San Martín.

As of 26 March 2008, the Ministry of Health (Ministerio de Salud de la Nación / MSAL) of Argentina has confirmed 5 cases of jungle yellow fever (JYF) in the country, including 1 death.

Since April 2007, the National Yellow Fever Alert System in Brazil has registered an increase of epizootics (animal epidemics) in monkeys in nine states considered at risk for the yellow fever (YF) virus, including Goiás State,

The Ministry of Health ((Ministerio de Salud Pública y Bienestar Social / MSPBS)) of Paraguay today confirmed 7 cases of jungle yellow fever from San Pedro Department.

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare ((Ministerio de Salud Pública y Bienestar Social / MSPBS) of Paraguay has confirmed 16 cases of yellow fever (YF), including 3 deaths.

As of 10 September 2003, a total of 184 cases of confirmed jungle yellow fever have been reported to the Pan American Health Organization, with 85 deaths.

As of today, a total of 24 confirmed cases of yellow fever (YF) have been reported by the country's Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare ((Ministerio de Salud Pública y Bienestar Social / MSPBS).
