Human Rights Watch seeks a South Africa Director to coordinate its efforts from its office in Johannesburg and to contribute to the organization’s human rights policy and advocacy work and to serve as the organization’s principal spokesperson in South Africa. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Africa Division, the South Africa Director will serve as the public face of HRW and act as the organization's central link to the media, government, civil society and public from outside or in South Africa and the Southern Africa region. The Director will be expected to promote HRW’s priority concerns with particular emphasis on Africa. The Director will be responsible for supporting HRW’s fundraising and outreach work and should be prepared to travel within South Africa and the region. S/he will also play a general representational role as the senior staff member in HRW's Johannesburg office and coordinate research in selected areas.
