PAHO Director Meets President of Uruguay Jose Mujica in Official Visit to the Country

The Director of the Pan American Health Organization PAHO/WHO, Mirta Roses, welcomed the health reform undertaken by the Uruguayan government and the country's progress in this area, especially the reduction of maternal-mortality. youthThe sexual and reproductive health problems confronting youth today are varied and complex. Well known and documented, they include risky sexual behavior, unwanted pregnancies, unmet need for contraception, and sexually transmitted infections (STI), including HIV. Furthermore, young people must overcome cultural barriers resulting from oppressive, discriminatory policies and laws that limit the reproductive options of women, and must also contend with the lack of physical infrastructure that would provide safe and healthy spaces for their development.
