Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease with epidemic potential, especially after heavy rainfall. It occurs throughout the world and is emerging as an important public health problem in both tropical and subtropical countries, affecting mostly vulnerable populations. Humans usually acquire leptospirosis through direct contact with the urine of infected animals or a urine-contaminated environment.
