WHO Executive Board to discuss eHealth and health Internet domain names.
The upcoming WHO Executive Board meeting will include a progress report to Member States on the implementation of the 2005 resolution on eHealth (WHA58.28). Key topics include standardization and interoperability in eHealth, on the exchange of health data; and a discussion on the challenges associated with the establishment of the dot health Internet domain name. The Secretariat will also report on current initiatives to strengthen the protection of the name of WHO on the Internet.
The Executive Board is composed of 34 technically qualified members elected for three-year terms. The annual Board meeting is held in January when the members agree upon the agenda for the World Health Assembly and the resolutions to be considered by the Health Assembly.
A second shorter meeting takes place in May, as a follow-up to the Health Assembly. The main functions of the Board are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, and advise and generally to facilitate its work.
