2012 represents the fifth year that PAHO/WHO’s Edmundo Granda Ugalde Leaders in International Health Program (LIHP) is being offered in its new decentalized format. To date, 185 participants from 31 countries have benefited from this new modality which is based on a dynamic collaboration with the PAHO/WHO Country Offices and national institutions in the countries of the participants. The Program had a record of 65 professionals from 23 countries participating in the LIHP 2011.
In addition to continuing to fulfil her already demanding responsibilities as Director of International Cooperation in Health in the Jamaica Ministry of Health, Ms. Ava-Gay Timberlake, has been selected to participate in PAHO/WHO’s LIHP 2012. She will engage in a program of work and learning opportunities over a nine month period with her experiences being reinforced through completion of a series of problem-based virtual modules. On 11 May 2012 as part of her in-country orientation, Ms. Timberlake met with the Hon. Dr. Fenton Ferguson, Minister of Health and his senior Ministry officials along with Ms. Margareta Sk?ld, PAHO/WHO Representative in Jamaica to reaffirm the Ministry’s commitment to participation in the LIHP 2012 and to suggest possible topic areas for Ms. Timberlake’s LIHP project. All participants from the Region of the Americas will be attending a face-to-face meeting to take place Managua, Nicaragua from 28 May – 1 June, 2012. The LIHP 2012 Program culminates in December 2012 with the presentation of final projects.
