Welcome to the website of the Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública/Pan American Journal of Public Health (RPSP/PAJPH), an open-access peer-reviewed monthly journal, published as the flagship scientific and technical periodical publication by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), headquartered in Washington, D.C., the United States of America.

The Pan American Journal of Public Health/Revista Panamericana de Salud Pública is accepting submissions for a special issue to be published in March 2015.

The objective of the issue is to identify and examine the main challenges that demographic, social, and epidemiological changes will pose to women’s health in the Region of the Americas in the coming years.

2015 marks a critical point for international work on health and development. We are at a key point for three highly relevant global efforts: the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development, the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals. This provides a unique opportunity to redefine the agenda on women’s health.

As in other health sectors, we are facing an unfinished or ongoing agenda on the one hand, and a new, not fully developed one on the other, all in a context of inequality within and across countries of the Region.

The main theme of the special issue is “The New Women’s Health Agenda in the Region of the Americas”. The subjects include  sexual and reproductive health access; quality and safety of health services; gender-based violence; chronic noncommunicable diseases and women’s health; mental health; studies on the intersectionality of social determinants of health; and knowledge gaps that impede the formulation of adequate women’s heath policies, among others.

Articles may be submitted in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. Authors should follow the instructions for authors; the cover letter should indicate that the paper is being submitted for this special issue.  Deadline: 17 August 2014.
