Since its implementation in 1968, the Expanded Textbook and Instructional Materials Program (PALTEX) has been an integral part of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) technical cooperation program to promote and support the development of health related human resources in PAHO Member States. PALTEX’s mission is to contribute towards health sciences education development in order to strengthen healthcare in the Region of the
PAHO’s experts determine which textbooks should be translated and made available through the Program in order to best serve the educational needs of health-related human resources personnel.
PALTEX has provided more than seven million books and instruments at accessible prices to university students and health workers who are active in the health services. Currently, more than 540 participating institutions in 20 Latin American countries are part of the sales network, with
