National Capacity Survey

PAHO Suriname and the Ministry of Health Suriname coordinated the completion of the WHO Non-Communicable Disease National Capacity Survey. A multidisciplinary team with representatives involved in health promotion, policy/advocacy and surveillance from the Ministry of Health (MoH), the National Heath Information System (MoH-NHIS), the Bureau of Public Health (BOG) and representatives from the Ministry of Education- Sports department, Regional Health Services (RGD) and the Cardiovascular Risk Management group participated in the process via productive discussions on chronic disease activities in the country.


An inventory is made on the following topics:

  1. Public health infrastructure
  2. Policies, strategies and action plans
  3. Health reporting/Information systems, surveys and surveillance
  4. Health system capacity for NCD prevention, early detection, treatment and care within primary health care
  5. Health promotion, partnerships and collaboration.
