An Important Step to Have a Better Prepared Health Sector
The first meeting to form the Health Sector's Technical Committee on Disaster Risk Management of the Health Sector was held in Panama, with the participation of delegates from the ministries of health of Central America and the Dominican Republic and those responsible for leading emergency coordination, preparedness and response activities.
This Committee will be an advisory body to the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and Dominican Republic (COMISCA) and the Coordination Center for Disaster Prevention (CEPREDENAC), member agencies of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
The meeting's objective was to review the rules governing the Committee, and the development of the main lines of action of the Health Sector's Central American Plan for Disaster Risk Management.
The Council of Ministers of Health of Central America (COMISCA), together with CDC-CAR and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), supports the consolidation of these integration processes, promoting joint planning and the development of common strategies to further strengthen the management capacity for risk reduction and disaster preparedness in Central America.
