Given the increased eruptive activity of the Fuego volcano, located 60 km southeast from the capital and 16 km south east of Antigua, Guatemala, the Executive Secretary of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction, has declared an Orange State of Alert.

It has been reported that 100 people have been evacuated from the areas surrounding the volcano. Four shelters have been set up in Alotenango (Zacatepequez). Volcanic ashfall has shut down La Aurora international airport, and road visibility has diminished in the surroundings areas.

The National  Emergency Operations Center has been activated. The Ministry of Health activated service lines in four departments (Guatemala, Zacatepequez, Escuintla and Chimaltenengo). There are no reports of victims, but the health areas are being monitored. Verification is pending from water and sanitation systems.

The situation is being handled by the Guatemalan authorities and there have been no request for international support.
